Unboxing Althea Korea Trendy Box #5: MD’s Pick Box

When I received my first-ever Althea Beauty Box, I thought it would be nice if they could also do curated boxes, AND THEY DID! They launched Althea Box first and then Trendy Box late last year. Trendy Box is a specially curated box filled with the latest and trending items in South Korea. A box may be full of makeup items, or skin care products, or both, depending on South Korea’s trend. Each month, they release a Trendy Box at their website which will be available for a limited time only or until supplies last. I like that they show all the items that will be included in each box, no need to guess if it’s really gonna be worth your money. What’s even more amazing is that they offer it at a VERY discounted price!

I’ve been wanting to get one ever since but the one’s that I really want goes out so fast! I mean, I get it, awesome products priced so low, of course everyone would love to get their hands on it. Heh. So imagine my excitement when I finally get to try one! Thanks again, Tammy and Althea for saving one box for me. ^_^

Shipping is reliable as always, I got my parcel delivered right to my doorstep in 10 days time. I always get excited whenever I see the courier holding a pink parcel because I know it’s gonna be from Althea; their packaging really does stand out. Of course, I had to film an unboxing video right away so I could share my authentic reactions upon opening the box and seeing the actual products for the first time. I highly suggest you watch it! And maybe subscribe to my YouTube channel as well, pretty please? Heeee.

Alright, so this is their fifth Trendy Box called the MD’s Pick Box dubbed as the “7 under-radar-items Althea MD’s love”. This box is priced at Php 1,317.00 only but the total value of the products is Php 6,048.00; what a steal! I don’t think that there’s really a unifying theme or characteristics of the products in this box, except that they’re probably the hottest items in SoKor right now. I do like that the items are a mix of skin care and make up products and that there is no similar product.

Items & Mini Reviews

I’ve only been using these products for a couple of weeks now but I think I’ve tested them enough already to share my thoughts on each item.

Laneige Clear-C Peeling Mask Php 962.00 (Althea price), Php 1,1317.00 (regular price)

To be honest, I haven’t used this kind of mask before (been using peel-off and mud masks) so I really don’t know what to expect. But having heard a lot of good things about this brand, I was so excited to try this product.

This product is  a wash-off type peeling mask with Strawberry seeds and soft konjac granules (no harmful plastic microbeads).  It gently exfoliates the skin with natural and plant-derived AHA; it leaves my skin softer and smoother. Currently, I have a dry and slightly sensitive skin, and I’m glad that this product doesn’t irritate my skin; it still keeps my skin feeling well moisturized after using this product.

Calmia Cleansing Tissue (Oatmeal Therapy) | Php 60.00 (Althea price), Php 120.00 (regular price)

This is probably the gentlest makeup wipes I’ve ever used! And I’m surprised that it can remove waterproof makeup from my skin. I love that it’s made with natural and plant-based ingredients; plus it smells fresh!

This travel-friendly pack has 20 sheets and is up for grabs at a very low price at Althea website; this is definitely a steal! I wish they have large packs available as well.

Lebaton BanBan Cleanser | Php 494.00 (Althea price), Php 642.00 (regular price)

This one has two products–brightening cleansing oil (step 1) and deep pore cleansing gel (step 2)–in one bottle. This item is perfect for double cleansing at night but I also like using the cleansing gel alone in daytime. I love the packaging of this product, it’s smart and space-saving, the two products has separate containers and pumps but, with the cap on, they look like a single product/bottle.

I love the scent of both products, they smell like actual grapefruits! The brightening cleansing oil effectively removes waterproof makeup without feeling too heavy on the skin. Using the deep pore cleansing gel twice, after cleansing with oil, completely removes any makeup residue even stubborn tints! Both feels good on the skin, they’re not irritating, and not drying at all. I love using it because it gives my skin that very refreshing and invigorating feeling.

Son&Park Face Lighting and Shading | not yet available for retail at Althea website, $23.42 (regular price, Son&Park website)

This is a contour & highlighter duo in a pretty compact. The contour has a creamy consistency that sets fast; it has a slightly warm shade. The highlighter is in cream-to-powder form that’s very blendable; it has a salmon pink shade with iridescent microglitters. This combo works best on fair to light beige skin tones.

The packaging is beautiful! It’s a magnetic compact, with big mirror, and comes with a soft brush; the exterior has a matte finish with an ever-slightly embossed glossy logo.

Catrin Diamond Mineral Foundation (21 Skin Beige) | not yet available for retail at Althea website, $18.90 (regular price, Amazon)

At first, I was hesitant to use this product because the shade is way too light for my skin tone. I usually use the shade #23 when it comes to Korean face/base makeup because it’s the darkest; and that is still lighter than my actual skin. But I am really interested in this product that I finally gave it a try and I’m surprised that I think I can definitely use this often.

This foundation comes in a loose powder form, in this unique container. It has a small round mirror on top of the cap and a sponge/sifter as applicator; it’s like a compact but in a more portable form and size. Since it’s a mineral makeup, the powder is very finely milled. It has a sheer coverage and very light on the skin, it’s perfect for touch-ups! When applied, it has a slight sheen but it still mattifies the face. It gives your skin that natural healthy glow.

RiRe Luxe Volume Tint (03 Milano Red) | not yet available for retail at Althea website, $12.29 (regular price, RiRe website)

This is, by far, the most pigmented lip tint that I’ve tried. At first, I thought that it’s an actual liquid lipstick because of the intense color payoff. It is so pigmented that a tiny bit of the product goes a long way! Also, it’s very blendable that it’s perfect for achieving pretty gradient lips.

Pure Smile Tea Pot Body Soap (Lemon Tea) | not yet available for retail at Althea website, $24.50 (regular price, Amazon)

The packaging of this product is so cute! I love that it comes with a pump; it makes dispensing the product easier. It smells like fresh lemons! This body soap gently cleanses the skin without stripping off moisture.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I love this box, it is definitely worth buying! I like that I can actually use every product included in this box. My top favorites are the peeling mask, ban ban cleanser, and lip tint. Also, I will definitely stock up on those wipes!

So far, I haven’t experience any negative reactions from using these products, even though I have quite a sensitive skin these days. I really hope that Korean brands step up their game when it comes to offering shade varieties. I would love to try more Korean makeup products but I also love my medium, very Filipina, skin tone.

Althea never fails to impress me. Sponsored or not, I always get good service from them; my transactions are always smooth. Having these Althea Boxes is a great idea, especially for those of us who love trying out Korean beauty products. Althea’s Trendy Box is perfect for those who want to stay current with the latest beauty trend in South Korea.

I’m looking forward and keeping my eyes out for the next Althea Boxes!
